Rocking

Not to be outdone by the cradleMoses Baskets (which are generally smaller and have carrying handles) are now available with bases that allow them to rock, either suspended swing-like between two posts or on curved rocking legs. Some rocking models also feature lockable casters to promote ease of movement from room to room.

Another trend is that once the baby outgrows the rocking bassinet, the base is a stand-alone item that converts into a toy box. These rocking "hybrids" of the two beloved baby beds offer parents and new babies, birth to four months, the best of both worlds.

Portable

Of course bassinets, and their smaller cousins the Moses Baskets, are by their nature portable. However, parents of yesteryear were forced to simply lug them around.

Today's portable bassinets have an array of helpful options, including bases with locking legs and casters. Portable models are designed to be moved into position empty, casters locked, and then the baby may be laid into the bassinet/Moses Basket. Some manufacturers have designed several interactive baby products including bassinets that convert into strollers when combined with other products from their line.

Folding

Folding bassinets really shine when it comes to being lightweight and convenient yet still safe enough to trust with your precious cargo. Designed to open similar to a folding chair, a wooden "X" frame holds a strong, padded fabric bassinet, which can be easily stored or moved and takes up little room in a small apartment or hotel room.

Folding models come with fitted mattresses and often a set of crib sheets as well, all washable. Some manufacturers of folding bassinets have accessories such as an arm and veil for parents who want to recreate the hooded effect of the classic bassinet.
